Subscription
Putiikkipalvelu subscription tiers, pricing, trial period, billing, and managing your subscription via the Stripe customer portal
The Putiikkipalvelu subscription is the monthly fee that keeps your store running. You'll find the page in the dashboard under Settings → Subscription, and what you see depends on your store's stage — trial, ready to start, active subscription, or expired.
Subscription ≠ payment method
The subscription is Putiikkipalvelu's own platform fee, not the same as the checkout payment method (Stripe or Paytrail). The checkout payment method handles your customers' purchases. The subscription is what you pay Putiikkipalvelu for using the platform.
Trial period
When you create a new store you get a 14-day free trial. During the trial you can explore the dashboard, add products, tweak settings, and try out features.
During the trial, the Settings → Subscription page shows an introduction card and a Contact Putiikkipalvelu button. The button opens a form where you tell us what kind of store you want. We then get in touch and discuss the build phase. The view then moves through these stages:
- You'll hear from us via email soon — request sent, waiting for us to respond
- Your store is being built — build is in progress; you can keep using the dashboard freely
- Store is ready to launch — pricing cards open and you can pick a subscription tier
Trial expiration
If the trial (14 days) ends before a subscription is activated, you'll be redirected to the trial-ended page. You can still contact us to continue.
Subscription tiers
Once the store is ready to launch, the Subscription page shows pricing cards. There are two paid tiers, each with two billing cycles.
Billing cycles
| Cycle | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Monthly | Stop anytime without long commitment |
| Yearly | 10% discount vs. the monthly price |
The cycle is picked with the Monthly / Yearly toggle above the pricing cards before starting the subscription. Once you've subscribed, the cycle is fixed for the entire period — switching happens through the Stripe customer portal (see Managing the subscription).
Tiers and contents
| Feature | Basic | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly price (monthly billing) | €69/mo | €99/mo |
| Monthly price (yearly billing) | €62.10/mo | €89.10/mo |
| Number of products | 300 | 1 000 |
| Storage | 1 GB | 5 GB |
| Finnish-language support | ✓ | ✓ |
| Putiikkipalvelu commission | 0% (no transaction fees) | 0% (no transaction fees) |
| Development work per month | 1 hour | 2 hours |
0% commission ≠ free payments
0% commission means Putiikkipalvelu doesn't take any cut of your orders. Stripe and Paytrail charge their own transaction fees for every checkout payment — these are set by the payment provider, not Putiikkipalvelu. See Stripe's pricing and Paytrail's pricing for current rates.
Starting a subscription
1. Complete your store settings
Before subscribing, the store's basic info must be filled in. Required fields:
- Owner's first name and last name
- Phone number
- Address, postal code, and city
- Storefront URL
If any required field is missing, the Subscription page shows a yellow notice card Complete your store settings first, which sends you to Settings → Store settings. More on the fields: Store settings.
2. Choose a tier and cycle
Toggle monthly or yearly billing and click the Subscribe button on your chosen tier card. You're redirected to Stripe's secure checkout page where you provide:
- Card details (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.)
- Confirm the billing period and amount
3. Payment and confirmation
Once the payment is approved, Stripe redirects you back to Putiikkipalvelu, where you see the confirmation page. The subscription activates automatically, and the Subscription page now shows the active subscription dashboard.
Activation can take a moment
Stripe processes the subscription in the background. Activation is usually immediate, but in rare cases it can take a few minutes. If the confirmation doesn't update, reload the page.
Managing the subscription
When the subscription is active, the Subscription page shows:
- The active tier (Basic or Pro) as a badge
- The next billing date (when the subscription renews automatically)
- A Manage Subscription button that opens the Stripe customer portal
- A Storage usage card showing how much storage is used relative to your tier's limit
Stripe customer portal
The Manage Subscription button takes you to Stripe's own portal, where you can:
- Update card details (e.g. new expiration date)
- Switch tier Basic ↔ Pro
- Switch billing cycle monthly ↔ yearly
- View and download invoices as PDF
- Cancel the subscription at the end of the next period
The customer portal is operated by Stripe — Putiikkipalvelu doesn't store your card details. All card and invoice data is Stripe's responsibility.
Cancelling the subscription
You can cancel from the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation works at the end of the period:
- You click Cancel subscription in the customer portal
- The subscription stays active until the current billing period ends
- When the period ends, the subscription is marked as expired
- After this, dashboard access is blocked, but you'll be redirected to a renewal page
You don't lose any data when cancelling — the store, products, orders, and customers are preserved. The subscription can be renewed at any time by returning to Settings → Subscription.
Cancellation doesn't delete your store
Cancelling the subscription does not delete your store — data is preserved and you can renew later. If you want to close the store completely and delete all data permanently, use Store settings → Close store. See Store settings for details.
When payment fails
Stripe automatically charges your card on the billing date. If payment fails (e.g. expired card, limit reached):
- First attempt fails — Stripe retries after a few days. The store stays active during this grace period.
- Several attempts fail — the subscription is marked as expired, and on the next sign-in you're redirected to the renewal page.
What to do if you get a Payment failed notice:
- Open Settings → Subscription
- Click Manage Subscription
- Update the card details in the Stripe customer portal
- Stripe automatically retries the charge
Storage limits
Each tier includes a defined amount of storage for your store's images (product photos, gallery images, page block images, ticket QR codes). Storage usage is shown on the Subscription page as a progress bar.
When usage exceeds 85% of the limit, the bar turns yellow (warning). When the limit is reached, the bar turns red and uploading new images is blocked until old ones are removed or the tier is upgraded.
What the Subscription page shows at each stage
The Subscription page layout depends on which stage your store is in:
| Stage | What the page shows |
|---|---|
| Trial period running | Introduction + Contact Putiikkipalvelu form |
| Contact request sent | Badge You'll hear from us via email soon |
| Store being built | Card Your store is being built — you can use the dashboard freely |
| Store ready to launch | Pricing cards and monthly/yearly toggle |
| Subscription active | Active tier + next billing date + Manage Subscription |
| Subscription cancelled or expired | Pricing cards (renewal works) |
| Trial period expired | You're redirected to the trial-ended page |
Tips and notes
Yearly billing saves money
If you're confident the store will run for longer, yearly billing saves 10% compared to monthly. The tier and cycle can still be changed any time in the Stripe customer portal.
Switching tiers mid-period
When you switch Basic ↔ Pro mid-period, Stripe calculates the prorated amount automatically — you only pay for the difference in usage time, not a full new period.
If the store is closed
When you trigger store closure (Store settings → Close store), the Stripe subscription is automatically scheduled for cancellation at period end. So you won't pay for a new month after closure — but if you're on yearly billing, the already-paid period isn't refunded.
