Copying a product
Create a new product from an existing one with Create copy — handy when you sell similar products.
If you sell several similar products, you don't have to fill in every product form from scratch. Create copy makes a copy of an existing product that you can then edit — the description, price, images, and variations are ready, and you only change what's different.
Creating a copy
- Go to Products → Product list.
- Find the product you want to copy and open the Actions menu (three dots) at the end of its row.
- Select Create copy.
The copy is created right away and you're taken straight to its editor. The action is available for every product type — regular products, variation products, tickets, and digital products.
The copy is a hidden draft
The new copy is named after the original with (kopio) added (Finnish for "copy"), and it's created hidden (Not shown in store). This way an unfinished copy isn't visible to customers until you've finished it and made it visible.
What is copied and what is reset
The copy is an independent product — it shares nothing with the original, and you can edit or delete it without affecting the original.
| Fields | What happens |
|---|---|
| Description, price, discount, stock, weight, brand, VAT | Copied as-is |
| Images | Copied (the copy gets its own images) |
| Variations and their options | All copied |
| Categories | Same ones copied |
| SEO fields | Copied as-is |
| SKU and GTIN/EAN | Cleared |
| Number of items sold | Reset |
| Visibility in store | Hidden (Not shown in store) |
SKU and GTIN are cleared because they're product-specific identifiers — two different products shouldn't share the same code. Everything else is a starting point you can freely edit.
The "Copy" marker and checklist
Right after copying, the editor shows a Copy marker and a ? button next to the Product details heading. Hovering the ? button gives you a checklist of what to review before publishing. The marker only appears right after copying — when you open the product normally later, it's no longer shown. This is intentional: a finished copy is just an ordinary product, with no lingering "copy" stamp on it.
Before publishing
Go through the copy and update at least these:
- Remove "(kopio)" from the name and give the product its own name.
- Set the SKU and GTIN if you use them.
- Check the stock and any discount — both are copied as-is.
- Update the SEO fields if needed.
- Make the product visible with the Show in store toggle once the copy is ready.
Digital products
Download files are not copied
A digital product's download instructions and download limit are copied, but the download files themselves are not. Re-upload the files to the copy before you make it visible — otherwise the customer won't receive any downloadable content after purchasing.
Tickets
Check the event and sales window
A ticket copy uses the same event and the same sales window as the original. If you copy a ticket for a new event or a new batch, change the event and update the sales start and end dates — otherwise the ticket may be tied to an event or sales window that's already in the past.
After copying a ticket you're taken to the ticket editor (not the regular product form).
