Product reviews

Turn reviews on, moderate them fairly, and reward reviewers with a discount code.

Product reviews let customers leave a star rating and written feedback on your products. Reviews appear on the product page in your storefront — as an average rating, a star distribution, and individual reviews — and they build trust with new buyers.

Reviews are managed from the dashboard sidebar under Products → Reviews. The view has three tabs:

  • Reviews — every review in your store, moderated from one list
  • Review settings — review visibility and rewards
  • Product search — find a single product and moderate just its reviews

Turning reviews on

Open the Review settings tab and set the following:

  • Reviews enabled — shows product reviews and the review form in your storefront. When this is off, customers can't see reviews or leave new ones.
  • Show "Verified buyer" badge — adds a badge to reviews when the reviewer has verifiably bought the product. On by default.

Click Save when you're done. Changes take effect in the storefront immediately.

How reviews are created

Customers leave a review on the product page, and logged-in customers can also leave one from their order history. A review has a star rating (1–5), an optional title, and the review text. Anonymous customers can also add a pen name.

Most reviews are published automatically — you don't have to approve each one:

  • Logged-in customers are registered and have verified their email, so their reviews are published right away.
  • Anonymous customers can review too, and the review is published immediately — unless the text contains a link, in which case it's held for your approval. This keeps spam links out of your store.

Verified buyer

Only logged-in customers with a paid order for the product earn the badge. An anonymous reviewer can never get the badge, because the system can't confirm the purchase. You can hide the badge entirely from settings.

Moderating reviews

The Reviews tab lists every review, newest first. Above the list you'll see the total number of reviews (Total reviews) and how many are awaiting approval (Awaiting approval).

Every review has a status:

  • Published — visible in your storefront
  • Pending — submitted but not yet published (awaiting your approval)
  • Content hidden — the star rating still counts, but the text is hidden from customers
  • Removed — the whole review, including its star rating, is hidden from the storefront

On the right of each row are the actions, which change with the status:

  • Publish — publishes a review that's awaiting approval
  • Hide content / Show content — hides or restores the review text. The star rating stays in the average.
  • Restore — brings a previously removed review back into view
  • Remove — hides the whole review (including the star) from the storefront

Removing a review

When you click Remove, a confirmation dialog opens where you pick a reason for removal: Spam, Fake or incentivized review, Not related to the product, or Other reason. You can add optional details. The reason is saved to the moderation history, so removals always leave a trail.

Only remove when a review isn't genuine

Removing hides the entire review — including its star rating — from your storefront. Only remove a review when it isn't genuine: spam, fake, or unrelated to the product.

Don't remove a review just because it's negative. If it's only improper wording, use Hide content instead — it hides the text but keeps the star rating. Fair moderation keeps your average credible to both customers and search engines.

When you want to focus on a single product, open the Product search tab and search by name. The list shows each reviewed product's average rating, its number of reviews, and any reviews awaiting approval.

Click a product to open its own reviews. You can moderate them with the same actions as the main list — changes update the list behind it immediately.

Discount code for reviews

You can reward reviewers with a discount code. Open Review settings and turn on Offer a discount code for reviews. Then pick one of your existing discount codes from the Reward code menu.

  • The code goes to logged-in customers who have bought the product and leave a review for it. It's shown to them after the review — never on the public product page.
  • The code is given for any honest review regardless of the rating — so you're not only rewarding praise, which keeps reviews credible.

The code's usage limit

A discount code's own usage limit only caps how many times it can be redeemed at checkout — not how many reviewers see it. If you want to cap redemptions, set the limit on the discount code itself.

Tips

  • Keep reviews enabled from the start — early reviews help new buyers the most.
  • Check the moderation list regularly and publish pending reviews quickly, so the form feels responsive to customers.
  • Encourage customers who bought from you to review with a discount code — it's the most effective way to collect verified reviews.
